SSS provide expert witness services for both civil and criminal cases. This support can be either as a joint expert witness or as a witness to support either the defence or, in rare cases, the prosecution.

Glossop Cartons
This was an inquest into the death of a person who entered the delivery end of a cutting and creasing machine and suffered a fatal crush injury to his head when the machine was started. The finding was accidental death.
The London Borough of Tower Hamlets v HSBC Bank plc
HSBC were prosecuted under Health and Safety at Work Act after an employee lost a finger in a brand new "CE marked" printing press in their in-house printing facility. HSBC pleaded guilty to not having risk assessments and failing to provide safe equipment. HSBC were incorrect to assume that, because a CE mark was applied, the machine was safe and they did not need to risk-assess it themselves. No action was taken against the (Spanish) manufacturer.
Mulcuck v Zenith Print and Packaging Ltd
Ex-employee sued Zenith for hearing loss which he claimed was caused when he worked for Zenith from 1986 to 1991. Claim dismissed.
HSE v Westferry Printers
The HSE prosecuted Westferry Printers after an employee lost part of a finger in a folder on a newspaper press.
